The Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee will hold public meetings to consider five potential new judges appointed by Gov. Gary Herbert.
To assist in determining the scope of the hearings, the committee is seeking public comment on the nominees.
The five new judicial appointments are: David R. Hamilton, appointed to the 2nd District Court; Michelle E.

Shooter hits trooper’s patrol car in Davis County

A state trooper’s patrol car was shot late Thursday while the trooper was helping with traffic control on Interstate 15 in Davis County.
The trooper was inside the car in a closed northbound lane near Bountiful when he heard something hit his car about 9:45 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden.

Drive-by shooting damages homes in Draper

Draper police are trying to find who shot two houses Thursday night near Highland Drive.
Sgt. Kurt Imig said someone shot two houses about 9:30 p.m. One home was occupied, but there were no injuries, he said.
One of the bullets penetrated a bedroom window, while another went through the back of the house.

A Tooele man was severely shocked Thursday morning when he backed into a high-voltage power source at a magnesium plant near Interstate 80.
